Morgan: Reasons for lasting 100+ years
The family has produced three generations of men utterly dedicated to the business, for whom running Morgan is a passion.

The Morgan family has always taken the long-term view and has never been interested in the fast buck. It has always wanted to achieve a reasonable return on its investment but not to make a fortune.

The family has never been tempted to accept even the most generous offers of outside investment and has never considered having its cars built by an outside
company. Serious offers have been made over the years by major companies including the Standard Motor company and Rover and more recently by venture capital groups but they have always been turned down.

The company did not expand too quickly in good times so that it did not have to shrink too muck in bad times. This saved it both at the time of the introduction of the Austin Seven in the 1920s and again when the American market suddenly collapsed in the early 1960s

The company financed itself out of eitler family or company reserves. lt did not depend on long-term borrowings from banks, which meant that it never lost control to a 1ender. Recently, it decided to seil the land on which the factory is built for £3.7 million together with certain future options in Order to finance the Aero 8.

The company has been single-minded for its whole 100 years in producing sports cars offering exceptional power-to-weight ratio and surprisingly sophisticated engineering. Its cars have also always offered good value in their class.

The company has never produced its own engine (although HFS did commission plans for one just after the Second Worid War). Charles is adamant that the company should not do something outside its core strengths and making engines would be just that. (HFS = Harry Morgan, founder)

In the last seventy years, Morgan has only produced a major new mode) every thirty years so that development costs have been spread over a most unusually long time. Morgan is a company that is always updating but never appears to change.

In the last ninety-three years for which profit figures are available, Morgan has made twenty losses and seventy-one Profits.
